Lanzarote Sports

The island´s wonderful clima allows sporting in free nature throughout the whole year. As one of the most practiced activities on the island counts the fishing, both from the coastline and submarine in open sea. There are numerous diving schools on the island.

Lanzarote also offers many possibilities for nautical sporting, or using the wind or the motor as driving power, e.g. surfing, water skiing or sailboarding. Furthermore there are a lot of other instalations to go in for all kinds of sports one can imagine. There are tennis courts or a golf course in the community of Teguise. Another one is being created in the community of Tias.

Referring to the island´s typical sports, it is inevitable to mention the „Canary Fight“ (lucha canaria) in which two men stand vis-à-vis trying to throw the adversary down. Another Canary sport called Palo Canario, originally meant to be a kind of self-defense, is practiced in a special way on Lanzarote Island and therefore obtains the name Palo Conerejo (conejero is the expression for something typical from Lanzarote).
