Fuerteventura

The Jandía peninsula, located at the southern tip of Fuerteventura, is one of the most spectacular places on the island. It belongs to the Municipality of Pájara and there you find the tourist areas of Costa Calma and Playas de Jandia, the port of Morro Jable and other tourist areas such as La Lajita, La Pared and Cofete.

The Jandía peninsula was formerly separated by the sea of Fuerteventura today is united by the Isthmus of La Pared, 4 km of white sand that crosses Fuerteventura coast to coast separating the peninsula Jandía from the north area of Fuerteventura.

We can also differentiate the Jandía peninsula into two areas, to the east is the Sotavento area, here we find extensive white sand beaches and turquoise green sea, beaches suitable for water sports such as windsurfing and Surf. In the area of Morro Jable we find the Lighthouse of the beach Matorral, this lighthouse serves as a warning to ships and is part of the characteristic landscape of this long beach of this area.

To the west is the area of Barlovento, here we find beaches in the area of "La Pared" and "Cofete", less accessible, the sea here is more dangerous because the island is facing the Atlantic ocean, sea and wind have eroded the coast, generating impressive cliffs and beautiful beaches beneath them.

An important figure in the Jandía peninsula is "Pico de la Zarza" with 807m, is the highest peak of Fuerteventura, from where you can appreciate very well the two areas of the peninsula we have just described.

An antecedent to excel in the Jandía peninsula is "Nature Park Jandía." Here we discover different ecosystems hidden among the organic sand dunes. The park also protects the peaks rising 800m above sea level, as is the "Pico de la Zarza" the highest of Fuerteventura. It also hosts different endemic plant species such as "Tajinaste Jandía."

The beaches of the Jandía peninsula, for its natural beauty and preservation, are considered the best beaches in the Canary Islands.
