Fuerteventura People

In Fuerteventura currently there are approximately 80,000 people, together with Lanzarote, the two islands are the oldest of the Canary archipelago.
Fuerteventura is a peaceful island, solitary in some sectors, with extensive white sand beaches and turquoise waters, which make it an

ideal place for tourism. This island is distanced from the African continent to just 100 kilometres, if we measure the distance to the Cape July. The origin of Fuerteventura, as well as the other Canary Islands is volcanic.
The original inhabitants of this island, as in most of the Canary Islands, are the Guanches, but the inhabitants of Fuerteventura are called "Majoreros" to differentiate them from other islands. Majoreros comes from the word "Majos", which was a type of shoe made of goat skin used by the natives of this island.

The island was formerly divided into two kingdoms, the north and south, geographically separated by a wall called “Pared” located on the east coast, historical data is often the rivalry between the two kingdoms.
Formerly known was that every woman in this culture had 3 husbands, it was a polygamous society, living in caves or semi-underground houses. It is said that it was a spiritual race, that in the highest mountains their rites and ceremonies were made, an example of this is the Tindaya Mountain, in which were found prints and religious symbols to prove that it was a sacred mountain.

People here ate fish, shellfish, goat meat and its milk and cheese; and "gofio" (roasted barley flour).
A say in Spain, referring to a pleasant and friendly person, is to say: "This is a “Maja” person” we believe that this is related to the Majos, former inhabitants of Fuerteventura. At present, the inhabitants of Fuerteventura are people from different backgrounds, people are registered from more than 30 nationalities, we can then ensure that it is a cosmopolitan island, even so, traditions and customs of the "Majoreros" persist with great force because Majoreros realize that they must teach and defend their traditions.

The inhabitants of Fuerteventura, people are very kind, cheerful and friendly, they are communicative and talkative people. They are also warm and helpful with people who visit the island.
