JAMEOS DEL AGUA

Jameo is the word that it designates to the part of a volcanic pipe of the one that has been ruined the roof for the weight or because of the gas accumulation and after what there is in the habit of staying a hollow circular and opened for the light. Two of these orifices and the section of channel lávico existing between them was the base for Jameos's construction of the Water, the first tourist resultant center of the intervention of the artist Cesar Manrique on the landscape lanzaroteño. The first phase of the works was inaugurated in 1966 and the works finished in 1976 with the construction of the Audience.

In his interior there is a natural lake of transparent waters, regulated by the nearby sea, in which an endemic species of the island lives, the jameitos, through a few minuscule, albino and blind crabs, of unknown origin. They are also the image chosen by the artist as plastic symbol of the Jameos.

The offer of the restaurant, the bar and the dancing floor, which they form " the most beautiful nightclub of the world ", according to the own Manrique, complement an offer that brings together the leisure, the culture and the taste for the aesthetics.

Both jameos join for a corridor that takes color from the Jameo Chico to the Big one, in which one finds the Audience, opposite to a water swimming pool emerald.

The visit to this tourist center must not give finished without a walk along the House of the Volcanoes, center of investigation volcanológica dependently on Lanzarote's Chapter, which has joined to the top part of Jameos's architectural area.
