Objectives: promotes tourism models which contribute in an effective way to the maintenance and protection of destinations natural and cultural heritage. The Institute promotes as final objective the sustainable development within the tourism industry and encourage the endogen capacities of every destination and host community. The ITR, through its activities, offers assessments to tourism establishment on Sustainable Tourism practical aspects and programmes. In this framework, the ITR collaborates with enterprise associations, and other organizations, both governmental and non governmental, whose activity takes place at sensitive areas to tourism activities implementation due to their cultural and natural heritage significance, either in developed or developing countries, where projects consistent with the sustainable development are implemented.

The Vision: is based in the valuation of the environment and cultural heritage within the tourism activity, through promotion, diffusion and application of standards and the development of a consistent certification system. The ITR focus a big part of its activity on supplying practical tools to implement a Responsible Tourism policy within the tourism industry. These tools are addressed to the responsible Administrations, the sector agents and the local communities, as these actors constitute the main exponent in every destination for the consolidation of tourism models under sustainability and responsibility principles.
