The Santo Domingo Convent, founded in 1698 by Captain Rodríguez Carrasco. Once inside the convent, visitors will see two large naves separated by four arches distinguished by their red and black stonework. The main altarpiece of the original chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Grace has survived over time, as has the stone altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin of Rosario, the Dominican Order’s Patron Saint. This chapel is also the only place in Lanzarote where we can find a retrochoir featuring painted murals, although it has deteriorated quite badly with ravages of time. Nowadays, this historical building forms the backdrop for different contemporary art exhibitions. |
