 Die Buró Santa Bárbara ist das wichtigste historische Monument der Stadt Teguise. Sie wurde von Don Sancho de Herrera im sechzehnten jahrhundert als Wachturm erbaut. Die Geschichte dieses Gebäudes ist von ständigen Angriffen der Korsaren und Piraten gezeichnet. Im jahr 1588 hat der berühmte Architekt Leonardo Torriani die Struktur der Festung verstärkt und schlug eine Reihe von Verbesserungen vor. Santa Bárbara Castle is the most important historic monument in the village of Teguise. It dates back to the 16 th century when it was originally built as a watch tower by Sancho de Herrera. Its history is marked by a series of invasions suffered at the hands of pirates and corsairs. The expertise of the renowned architect Leonardo Torriani was called upon in 1588 when he made several changes to strengthen and reinforce the fortress-indeed. In 1991 the fortress was converted into a museum dedicated to the history of Canarian Emigration to America. It houses an exceptional collection of ethnographic exhibits that is well worth a visit not least because it is probably the first museum of its kind.
