Museum of Cetaceans of the Canaries (MCC) opened its doors on April 22 2006 in the buildning Antiguo Varadero, in the marina of Puerto Calero, in the town of Yaiza (Lanzarote).
The Museum of Cetacean invites you to discover one of the most important collections of Europe, as a result of over 20 years of research on whales and dolphins in the Canary Islands.
The visitor is immersed in the oceanic environment to learn about the features and the way of life of these wonderful creatures, through images, sounds, replicas in natural size, scale models, skeletons and biological material.
The museum is managed by the Secac (Sociedad Para el Estudio de Los Cetáceos en el Archipiélago Canario, Society for the Study of Los Cetaceans in the Canary Islands) and Puerto Calero. In this joint project is very important to stress that a percentage of the benefit is intended to finance research projects and maintenance associated with these fascinating marine mammals.
The MCC facilities are accessible for disabled, home to the office of the Secac, have an outdoor area, an audiovisual room, a store of exclusive products and four exhibition halls.
The theme of the rooms includes an introduction to cetaceans, life in the oceans, a journey through the major families who are in the Canary Islands, to finish with a space dedicated to the conservation and study of their environment, the sea.
